It benchmarks the performance of its portfolio against Standard & Poor's (S&P) National Municipal Bond Index. It was formerly known as Nuveen Enhanced Municipal Credit Opportunities Fund. Nuveen Municipal Credit Income Fund was formed on March 21, 2001 and is domiciled in the United States.
