Rebate through the ComEd Beneficial Electrification Plan provides funding to bring forward one of the largest public charging hubs in the region

ComEd today presented a $500,000 electric vehicle (EV) rebate check to bp pulse, delivering funds and technical support to deliver onsite infrastructure upgrades to support the livening of 40 new ultrafast EV charging ports near O'Hare Airport (ORD). The charging hub aims to provide local vehicle operators and rideshare drivers with fast and convenient charging options and advances key goals of ComEd and the state to increase EV charging access in public sites.

The new charging hub near ORD represents one of the largest public charging sites in the region and builds on more than 9,500 new public and private charging ports energized through ComEd's rebates since ComEd first launched its EV rebate programs in 2024.

"ComEd is committed to helping our customers access the benefits of clean and affordable transportation, so we are proud to partner with bp pulse and stakeholders across the region to advance the delivery of new large scale EV charging sites," said President and CEO of ComEd, Gil Quiniones. "By providing funding for EV infrastructure projects, ComEd has made it possible to bring thousands of new chargers online, positioning northern Illinois communities to advance state goals for building a cleaner, more equitable future."

ComEd's rebate helped cover the costs of site and infrastructure upgrades to bring 40 new ultrafast EV charging bays online, including a mix of 400kW and 150kW DC fast chargers. In addition, ComEd teams delivered infrastructure upgrades needed to serve new charging needs. This charging hub is one of six projects ComEd is partnering to deliver with bp pulse, with other charging locations set to come online in 2026 across northern Illinois.

"Opening our sixth major airport hub is a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our EV charging network across the United States," said Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse Americas. "Working alongside utilities like ComEd, we are ensuring that new fast charging stations can deliver access to quick and reliable charging that drivers increasingly demand."

Additional funding for this new charging hub came from the Illinois EPA Driving a Cleaner Illinois Program.

"Reaching Illinois' goals for a cleaner transportation future depends on advancing consumer and commercial EV adoption, and charging accessibility plays a large role in EV adoption," said Megha Lakhchaura, EV Officer for the state of Illinois. "The work of charging deployments like bp pulse's latest hub, ComEd's EV Rebate programs and grants from Illinois EPA are making transportation electrification more accessible for all northern Illinois businesses and communities."

Funding for EV charging infrastructure is an essential step to reducing barriers to EV adoption. ComEd's EV Rebate programs are a requirement of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), a landmark climate law passed in Illinois. Currently, there are over 160,000 EVs registered in Illinois, with nearly 90 percent operating in ComEd's service territory, up from 19,000 registered EVs in northern Illinois in 2019. The deployment of more publicly accessible charging stations helps make EV ownership easier and supports the state's EV goals."

"The City of Des Plaines is committed to driving EV adoption forward for our residents, businesses and visitors," said Andrew Goczkowski, Mayor of the City of Des Plaines. "As an EV Ready community, we welcome the investment from bp pulse and ComEd to give our residents and commuters in and around the area access to affordable, convenient charging options."

Since the launch of ComEd's EV Rebate programs in February of 2024, ComEd has awarded nearly $150 million in 356 northern Illinois zip codes—helping fund more than 9,500 EV charging ports and over 3,000 fleet electric vehicles. Eighty percent of the rebates paid have gone to low-income customers or organizations located in, or primarily serving, low-income and Equity Investment Eligible Communities (EIECs).

To help customers connect to the benefits of EVs, ComEd offers various resources including the ComEd EV Toolkit, EV Ambassador Program, EV Readiness Program, EV Load Capacity Map, Fleet Electrification Assessments, EV Service Provider Network, EV Dealership Network and more.

ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC), a Fortune 200 company and one of the nation's largest utility companies, serving more than 10.7 million electricity and natural gas customers. ComEd powers the lives of more than 4 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
