Company aims to build new bridges for aspiring physicians around the world to address the global doctor shortage

Adtalem Global Education, the nation's largest health care educator, is expanding access to medical education by creating clear, scalable pathways into medical school. To meet the growing demand for physicians worldwide, Adtalem's medical institutions, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), are launching programs that help qualified students move seamlessly from preparation to practice.

According to the World Health Organization, the world will face a shortage of 11 million health care workers by 20301. Adtalem's latest initiatives, including the Advanced Medical Preparation (AMP) India, a partnership with the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, and a partnership with U.S. company, ScribeAmerica, the nation's largest provider of medical scribes and workforce solutions, will help close that gap by removing barriers and creating more routes into medicine.

"We're seeing tremendous global demand for physicians, which is why we've designed multiple pathways into medical education that maintain our rigorous standards while expanding access," said Scott Liles, president of Adtalem's Medical and Veterinary institutions. "Whether you're a premed student in Bengaluru, a health care worker in Fort Lauderdale, or pursuing medical sciences in the UK, we're creating structured programs that meet students where they are. Our graduates are practicing physicians around the world, contributing to health care systems that need them most."

RUSM and AUC have a combined 95% first-time residency attainment rate for 2024-20252. Students entering through these pathway programs are positioned for the same level of success, as they must meet identical admission standards, pass the same licensing exams, and complete the same rigorous medical training that has led to these strong outcomes.

In India, the Advanced Medical Preparation (AMP) India program allows students to complete preparatory coursework before moving directly into RUSM in Barbados. In the United Kingdom, AUC has partnered with the University of Wolverhampton, which offers a two-year accelerated BSc in medical sciences that guarantees admission to AUC for students who meet program requirements.

Through a new collaboration with ScribeAmerica in the United States, medical scribes and other health care pre-professionals in the ScribeAmerica network can receive conditional acceptance to RUSM or AUC, along with significant scholarship support designed to help remove financial barriers to pursuing a medical degree.

Every year, ScribeAmerica recruits, hires and trains thousands of pre-med students around the country seeking experience in a clinical setting before attending medical school, nursing school or other health care graduate programs. These highly skilled individuals, who work in hospitals and medical offices across the U.S., are the physicians, nurses and physician assistants of tomorrow. Through the partnership with ScribeAmerica, these professionals gain not only conditional medical school acceptance but also layered scholarship support that can cover tuition, housing, travel, preparatory coursework and application fees.

The program is open to all current ScribeAmerica employees who meet admissions requirements, about 10,000 people, with no cap on participation. Together, these programs demonstrate a scalable model that Adtalem can replicate across different markets and education systems.

"Our workforce is side-by-side with thousands of clinicians every day, striving to support the best possible care delivery. They are passionate about health care, and are very motivated to continue their careers as clinicians," said Tony Andrulonis, M.D., CEO of ScribeAmerica. "This partnership with Adtalem gives them a valuable pathway and unique opportunity to pursue a first rate health care education with significant financial support. We're thrilled not only to help our dedicated employees take the next step in their careers, but also to help Adtalem create more clinicians for the health care system."

Adtalem plans to build on this model across its medical institutions, expanding access to education for aspiring health care professionals and helping meet the global demand for qualified physicians.
