American Water (NYSE:AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that for the fourth consecutive year, American Water volunteers will install 2,977 American flags, to commemorate all the lives lost during the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001. The flags will be placed on the RCA Pier Park, adjacent to the American Water headquarters in Camden, N.J.
Among those invited to join volunteers in the installation will include company executives, Camden city officials as well as first responders. The flags will remain on display for approximately one week. After which they will be donated to Camden County Veteran Affairs, where the flags will be used again for Veterans Day in November.
"It's been 23 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and still to this day, we feel the lasting impact it's had on our nation", said Sean Wheatley, President, Military Services Group, American Water. "This flag memorial is a subtle but important reminder of a day we will never forget."
As an annual tradition, the flag memorial which was first assembled in 2021 serves as a moment of reflection and remembrance in honor of the lives lost, survivors, their families and first responders.
