Filing of Rate Request with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (the “WVPSC”) by West Virginia-American Water Company (“West Virginia American Water”)
On May 5, 2025, West Virginia American Water, a subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc. (the “Company”), announced that it filed a request with the WVPSC to adjust its water and wastewater rates. The request seeks aggregate annualized incremental revenues of $47.8 million, excluding infrastructure surcharges of $12.7 million, which would include two step increases, with $32.6 million to be included in rates in March 2026, and $15.2 million to be included in rates in March 2027. The request is based on a proposed return on equity of 10.75% and a capital structure with an equity component of 50.80% and 50.97%, respectively, for each of the two steps. The requested annualized incremental revenue is driven primarily by more than $300 million of capital investments completed and planned by West Virginia American Water from March 2024 through February 2027. The request is subject to approval by the WVPSC, and the general rate case is expected to be completed by the end of February 2026.
