Since 2024 ComEd's Electric Vehicle rebate programs have helped propel thousands of chargers and fleet EVs within Illinois; more than $60 million in rebate funding remains to be paid this year

ComEd today announced that it has paid customers more than $100 million in transportation electrification rebates to support charging infrastructure and fleet vehicle electrification—helping fund more than 7,200 EV charging ports and over 2,200 fleet electric vehicles since the launch of its electric vehicle (EV) rebate programs in 2024. Through the end of this year, ComEd has more than $60 million in residential and business rebates to pay customers, helping cover the costs of charging infrastructure and fleet projects.

With the recent approval of ComEd's second beneficial electrification plan, additional rebate funding will be made available in January of 2026. To learn more about how to qualify for EV funds, and specific rebate amounts, please visit ComEd.com/EV.

"EVs can help customers save money on fuel and maintenance while lowering emissions to save the planet," said Ajit Apte, SVP of Customer Operations at ComEd. "With more than $100 million in rebates awarded to date, ComEd continues to make funding available for charging and fleet projects to help advance our clean energy goals across the region and make EVs more affordable for everyday customers."

Since first launching EV rebate programs in February of 2024, over 6,400 projects have been funded in 348 zip codes across northern Illinois. Eighty percent of the rebates paid have gone to low-income customers or business and public sector organizations located in or primarily serving low-income and Equity Investment Eligible Communities (EIECs).

Building on its current $231 million investment in beneficial electrification (BE), deployed from 2023 through 2025, ComEd will invest an additional $168 million between 2026-2028 to help residential and non-residential customers transition to and take advantage of EVs. The continuation of ComEd's BE funding marks a significant step forward in ComEd's commitment to advancing EV adoption and the resulting customer benefits, including emissions reductions in northern Illinois.

In response to changes in federal funding support for EVs, ComEd has reevaluated and increased many of the rebate amounts that will be offered to customers starting January 1, 2026, relative to what it had initially filed as part of its second BE Plan. These changes will better support businesses and municipalities as they transition to electric fleets in Illinois. Projects located in or primarily serving low income or EIECs will be eligible for higher rebate amounts and will continue to receive more than 50 percent of ComEd's EV rebate budget.

"Reaching Illinois' goals for a cleaner transportation future depends on advancing fleet electrification plans to reduce tailpipe emissions in our communities," said Megha Lakhchura, EV Officer for the state of Illinois. "Initiatives like the ComEd EV rebate programs, one of the largest investments in electrification in the state, are an important step in making it financially feasible for fleets of any size to explore electrification."

The EV rebate programs offered by ComEd are designed to support the goals set forth by the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). Signed into law by Governor J.B. Pritzker in 2021, CEJA aims to combat climate change by leveraging Illinois' clean electricity grid and promoting beneficial electrification across the state, with a goal of putting 1 million EVs on Illinois roads by 2030. Currently, there are nearly 150,000 EVs registered in Illinois, with 90 percent operating in ComEd's service territory, up from 19,000 registered EVs in northern Illinois in 2019.

"At the Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation (IACT), we're committed to advancing clean fuel solutions, reducing transportation-related emissions, and improving energy security across Illinois," said Samantha Bingham, IACT Board Member. "Transportation electrification is one strategy for cutting emissions and an essential step toward building a healthier, more sustainable future for our communities. IACT commends ComEd for offering solutions to support the transition to electric vehicles in Illinois, helping ensure Illinois remains a leader in clean transportation."

"Chicagoland's new-car dealers are proud to host our annual fall event, Chicago Drives Electric, to help introduce and connect local residents with resources and funding options to support their EV transition," said Jennifer Morand, President of Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA). "CATA dealerships are committed to supporting the electrification of our industry, and supporting the ComEd rebate program is one of the many ways we are helping make the adoption of electric fleets a reality for all interested parties."

EVs provide a variety of benefits for customers. Not only do they offer fuel and maintenance cost savings and performance benefits, but communities can experience broad environmental improvements from reduced tailpipe emissions. Switching to an EV can save vehicle operators hundreds to thousands of dollars in fuel and maintenance cost saving per vehicle per year, depending on driving distance, vehicle model and personal usage. Additionally, electrifying transportation—especially vehicle fleets—can create tangible benefits for all communities and families across northern Illinois, including health benefits in communities which have traditionally borne the brunt of climate change and air pollution.

"Reducing emissions from vehicles is one of the most effective and important things we can do to improve air quality and public health," said Rob Anderson, President and CEO of Respiratory Health Association. "As we have seen the ending of federal funding support for this effort, ComEd's continued commitment of transportation electrification rebates is leading the way for our shared goal of eliminating pollution and creating cleaner air for all of our communities across northern Illinois."

ComEd's BE Plan was developed in close collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including environmental organizations, community groups and industry experts to ensure equitable access to electrification benefits. To help customers connect to the benefits of EVs, ComEd offers various resources including, the ComEd EV Toolkit, EV Ambassador Program, EV Readiness program, EV Load Capacity Map, Fleet Electrification Assessments, EV Service Provider Network, EV Dealership Network and more.

ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC), a Fortune 200 company and one of the nation's largest utility companies, serving more than 10.7 million electricity and natural gas customers. ComEd powers the lives of more than 4 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
