No-cost, low-cost energy-efficiency tips can help families and individuals save money and the environment this winter season

As temperatures drop, ComEd's Energy Doctors are available to offer energy-saving tips that can help families and individuals manage energy use and save money on electric bills.

Energy Doctors are a resource for ComEd customers who want to keep energy costs low as outside temperatures start to drop. They offer simple tips to help maintain the temperature within your home, as well as information on using energy more efficiently to maintain the cost of your electric bill through the life of your home. Customers also can email questions to the Energy Doctors at [email protected] and receive a response within five business days. Customers can also find an Energy Doctor FAQ at ComEd.com/EnergyDoctor.

"ComEd's Energy Doctors are experts committed to helping customers – especially those facing economic hardships – reduce their electricity use and save money," said Melissa Washington, ComEd's senior vice president of customer operations and strategic initiatives. "As the average temperatures drop, and the days grow shorter, our energy experts are on call with no-cost and low-cost tips to help families and individuals better manage energy use and reduce their electric bills."

This season, ComEd's Energy Doctors remind customers of the following tips:

    • When the sun is shining, open shades on south-facing windows and take advantage of natural light for warmth. Close the shades during the night to help insulate your home.
    • Set your thermostat to as low a temperature as possible to maintain personal comfort. The smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your overall heating bill will be. Overnight, you can also save by turning your thermostat down a few degrees while sleeping.
    • Clear area around heating and cooling vents. Furniture, carpets, and other objects can block vents and prevent heated air from circulating in your home.

    Additional Savings Opportunities

In addition to energy-saving tips, the award-winning ComEd Energy Efficiency Program offers programs, discounts and incentives that help residential, business and public sector customers cut back on energy use to reduce energy bills and help the environment. Since 2008, the program has helped hundreds of thousands of customers save more than $9 billion on their energy bills and more than 82 million megawatt-hours of electricity. This is enough of an energy reduction to help avoid from the air nearly 60 billion pounds of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.

    • Home Energy Savings. Homeowners and renters can reduce their energy use with a free energy assessment that includes free and discounted products for their home. Customers receive personalized recommendations for saving energy and money. Income-eligible customer homes will be evaluated for additional free weatherization improvements.
    • Rebates and discounts. Offered to help families and individuals defray the cost of purchasing energy-efficient appliances and home products that will save them money and energy in the long run. To take advantage of rebates and discounts at the time of purchase, visit a participating retailer and look for the ComEd "Lower Price" sticker. Rebates and discounts can also be applied post-purchase online at ComEd.com/Appliance.
    • Income eligible offerings. ComEd offers deeper discounts and higher rebates on a variety of energy-efficient products and services to income eligible customers. Eligibility is determined by household income among other qualifiers. For eligibility qualifications and specific offerings, visit ComEd.com/Eligible.

Providing resources and programs for customers throughout the winter season is just one example of how ComEd helps customers reliably navigate the changing weather conditions. Ongoing investments made by ComEd to help the grid stand up against inclement winter weather recently earned the energy company a 2024 ReliabilityOne® award for Outstanding Reliability Performance in the Midwest Metropolitan Service Area.

ComEd residential customers interested in taking advantage of these or other ComEd Energy Efficiency Program offerings can view a full list at ComEd.com/HomeSavings. Offerings for business customers are available at ComEd.com/BizSavings.

ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC), a Fortune 200 energy company serving more than 10.5 million electricity and natural gas customers – the largest number of customers in the U.S. ComEd powers the lives of more than 4 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population. For more information visit ComEd.com, and connect with the company on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube.
