Northern Trust Asset Management Appoints Gijsbert de Lange as Chief Innovation Strategist
Northern Trust Asset Management, a leading global investment management firm with US$1.4 trillion in assets under management as of September 30, 2025, has appointed Gijsbert de Lange as chief innovation strategist.
In this role, de Lange will lead innovation across the investment team, embedding cutting-edge research and advanced AI technologies into Northern Trust Asset Management's investment capabilities. He will support the adoption of these methods within Northern Trust Asset Management's equity, fixed income and multi-asset strategies.

Over the past year, Northern Trust Asset Management has brought innovative new investment solutions to market, launching new distributing ladder ETFs based on patent-pending technology, significantly expanding its quantitative capabilities and adding tax-aware long/short equity strategies to client offerings. As chief innovation strategist, de Lange will build on this foundation and support new innovations across the firm. De Lange is based in Amsterdam and reports to Northern Trust Asset Management Global co-Chief Investment Officers Anwiti Bahuguna, Ph.D. and Christian Roth, CFA.
De Lange joined Northern Trust Asset Management in 2025 as an investment solutions expert in the quantitative strategies team. Previously, he was head of APG Asset Management's quantitative equities team, leading the development of innovative quant alpha investment strategies across developed and emerging markets, leveraging AI technologies. De Lange has more than 30 years of financial markets experience spanning derivatives trading, quantitative investment and risk management at Willis Towers Watson and ABN AMRO Bank. He holds a master's degree in econometrics from the University of Amsterdam.
